Key Findings
There are two sources of inspiration that I think this design could draw from: (1) Logan’s songs, and, (2) Logan’s life.
Common Themes in Logan’s Songs
I took ten of Logan’s songs, analyzed the lyrics, and compared/contrasted to find common threads. They are:
Love, Relationships
Freedom, Escape, Exploration, Travel
Nostalgia, Memory, the Past
Self-Reflection, Identity
Logan’s Instagram Photos
On social media, Logan shares photos of his life on the road. Beyond selfies, there are pictures of interesting graffiti, random signage, concerts, and friends.
Creating a Visual Identity
Taking the above into consideration, I strongly felt the inclination toward two design styles:
Vintage Americana art, such as what’s found on old “souvenir” matchboxes.
Coastal Western, a modern mashup of two styles of design.
Style 1: “Matchbox”
Description
Matchboxes were a common “cheap” souvenir at tourist destinations (and tourist traps), travel stops, and retro motels. They are particularly associated with travel through the American Southwest and were popularly collected along Route 66 leading into California.
The “matchbox” style naturally evokes the themes of nostalgia, memory, freedom, escape, and travel. Those themes relate to Logan’s photos from the road and from albums like 23 Days in LA.
Style 2: “Coastal Western”
